The textbook I wrote titled America Studied is a multi-disciplinary tool for teachers of American History, American Literature or Poetry.  Its goal is for students to understand that information from various disciplines may be learned separately, but that information is best synthesized in order to create a deeper connection between disparate elements in life. 


My lessons use poetry as the medium for pushing students to increase their meta-cognitive thinking. Students test their critical thinking skills as they discern the meaning of the poem and then apply that meaning to information learned from the poem, activities and historical topics.
